Subject:  1998 Chevy Blazer Transmission / Engine problem?

Chad asks:  I have a ‘98 Blazer 4×4. The problem is when I give it gas, it seems to shift late and hard. It also has a lot of trouble getting up to speed. Also, when it gets to around 3 K. to 4K. RPM, it has a very high pitch squealing noise. Kind of like a huge whistle. I have taken it to several places to have it checked out, and no one has come to the same conclusion on the problem. I have been told everything from a possible fuse blown to the transmission to a O2 sensor going out. Can you help with some advice?!?

Steve asks:  1992 Cadillac Eldorado goes in reverse but wont engage in any forward gears, how do I troubleshoot?

Hey Steve, I’ll bet your neck is sore from driving backwards. Just kidding… Open-mouthed

Check the condition of the fluid along with the level. Check the linkage. I would have the fluid changed along with a filter replacement.

If it still doesn’t want to move, then a rebuild of the transmission is most likely needed.

Just for the heck of it check and make sure the emergency brake is releasing.

Good luck Steve…

Subject:  car won’t go

Theo asks:  My 1995 Ford Taurus will start, but won’t move forward or backward?

I am sure you have checked the emergency brake. Next I would check the linkage to the transmission and the fluid level. If that is ok then your transmission may be shot and need a rebuild.

Good luck with the Taurus…

Your car or truck goes through a lot of wear and tear during its time on the road. There are so many items in need of attention that it can be difficult to really focus on the proper maintenance at the right time for your car.

We all want to rely on our vehicles and the more maintenance that we are able to keep up, the more reliable our cars are in return for the proper care.

We should all be taking care of oil changes at the manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule, but a couple of car maintenance items are overlooked quite often and that is the automatic transmission fluid and the coolant in the engine.
