Alan asks: 1994 Geo Tracker-1.6 litre - repairing a small leak at the distributor case with rtv sealant - when I remove the case,do I have to have the engine at top dead center? Any other advice is welcomed. Thank you

Alan, I really don’t think it is a good idea to repair the distributor case with RTV. A better repair would be to just replace it.

As long as you remember which position it was in you will be OK but to be sure I would get it all at TDC so you don’t have to mess with it twice…

Subject:  distributor problems

Rich asks:  have 95 ford probe, v6 2.5l. have had 5 rebuilt distributors put in by 3 different mechanics - been told no other problems. last mechanic said he didn?t use rebuilt, to get used one. I am trying to decide if I should try a used one. If you can help, I would appreciate it. the last one put in only lasted 2 weeks. I am not a mechanic and don?t work on cars, so any help would be appreciated.

Rich, I need to know what failed on the distributor. Was it the electrical HEI in the distributor or the gear?
