Subject: 1996 Camry stalling
CJ asks: My 1996 Toyota Camry is stalling out when I put it into gear. They cleaned the idler arm without any benefit. What could possibly be wrong? Is there a sensor or idler motor that could be bad? Thanks
First off CJ, the idler arm has nothing to do with the idle of your engine. And yes, there is a sensor that could be bad. You need to have the trouble codes checked and the faulty part or parts replaced.
Kerry writes: 2001 Sentra GXE, stalls when stopped or when driving, can prevent by revving up engine (giving it gas) only happens occasionally. Not all the time. Sensor has been changed twice, it’s not helping. Also trips went from 555 km on full tank to under 500.
It sounds to me like your car needs a tune-up, Kerry. When fuel efficiency falls 10 percent, I would begin with a general tune up, including a diagnostic analyzer hooked up to check for codes.
