Rick asks:  I have a 1990 Mitishibishi Spyder convert. Dash lights just went out, speedometer bouncy…..I checked fuse box, but nothing there. What can I do next?

Rick, you can check the connection going up behind the panel but that is quite confusing, so you may want to remove the instrument panel cover and check the bulbs. The bouncy speedometer is from the speedometer cable needing lubrication or the connection on the transmission may be getting loose.

Good luck Rick…

Andy wonders:  I replaced the alternator power steering belt on my 2.3 galaxy yesterday, cos it had snapped. but the new one has shredded today on my way to work. why would this happen so quickly, please help as I’m going on holiday to Norfolk tomorrow.

I decided to email Andy directly with the following since he was in a big hurry to get it fixed:  It sounds to me like the pulley alignment is off or when you put on the new belt, it is rubbing something to make it shred. Check the condition of the pulley’s when you check the alignment and make sure you are routing the belt correctly, especially if it is a serpentine belt. Also, do not over tighten the belt!  I will post this answer in a day or two and maybe someone will comment on it at the site and give you more hints.

Warranty Direct, a top rated extended auto warranty company, notified us today that eligibility changes are coming.

With the New Year approaching, rates and coverage will change for extended car warranties.

For example:

If you have a 2007 model
7 years of coverage will no longer be available for your vehicle.

If you have a 2006 model
6 years of coverage will no longer be available for your vehicle.

  • Coverage costs rise annually as parts and labor costs rise. Labor rates have risen by $15-$20 per hour in the past several years.
  • Subject:  no heat or blowing of air through vents

Casey tells me:  Hey there, I have a 1999 Grand Prix GT 3.8 non supercharged. I have no air whether cold or warm coming through the vents. I have power to the console for adjustment and the fuses and wiring all seem fine, just cant seem to figure it out. Can you please help me?
