Subject: 1998 Chevy Blazer Transmission / Engine problem?
Chad asks: I have a ‘98 Blazer 4×4. The problem is when I give it gas, it seems to shift late and hard. It also has a lot of trouble getting up to speed. Also, when it gets to around 3 K. to 4K. RPM, it has a very high pitch squealing noise. Kind of like a huge whistle. I have taken it to several places to have it checked out, and no one has come to the same conclusion on the problem. I have been told everything from a possible fuse blown to the transmission to a O2 sensor going out. Can you help with some advice?!?
Lets see here Chad, starting with the late shifting. Of course it will shift late with the accelerator pegged, and the hard shifting is a good sign. You may need to have the linkage from the throttle body to the transmission adjusted. Get a manual and it will tell you how to do this. It is not too difficult. This should help the late shifting and synchronize the transmission with the proper RPM of the engine.
Does the whistling occur in all the gears when you are at that RPM? Keep it in 2nd gear and get the truck up to 3500 RPM and see if it does that. Then 3rd gear, what I am getting at is it may be the tires and if that is not the case I would not have any ideas unless I heard it myself.
But Chad, try adjusting the linkage and that should help on the other situation. Good luck…
Dave
