Trey, it can be a variety of issues why your ABS light is on.

First, check the fuse going to the pump, it is usually under the hood in a covered fuse block.

Next I would inspect each wheel where the sensor is and make sure the wires going to the sensors were not damaged by road debris.

Also make sure the connector going to the ABS pump is connected and not loose.

Did you replace rotors or drums recently, which would have to be for an ABS brake system to function properly.

And lastly have a professional check the pump to insure that it is not burned out or just malfunctioning.

Good Luck Trey and Drive Safe…

  1. George Said,

All good advice, Dave. Couldn’t agree more with your words on most of these. Not sure what kind of car he had, but this can also be an electrical problem? I had a late model Hyundai that I learned tripped the ABS light when there was an alternator problem. He didn’t say anything else about other idiot lights, but I always ask my kids and my folks and friends to tell me *everything* going on with the car, like you did before with the lady with the CV joint problem. You can get used to the steering if that happens, but pretty soon, it’s kind of obvious. ABS can be anything, but the fuse is a good, easy place to start.

    Nice stuff you got here!
